Well it seems that the 1911 bug has finally caught up with me. Reading about them constantly on this board has had a little to do with it as well.

That said, being in Maryland severly limits my options (what with the integral lock law and all). That combined with my limited budget really only leaves one contender, the Springfield Mil-Spec.

Now I have researched a little and found both the pro's and con's of the Springfield 1911's. It seems to me that the Mil-Spec's are generally thought to be rugged and reliable.

Knowing this, I have heard very little to nothing on the Stainless Mil-Spec. I really like the looks of this gun, and I think it would be a great base to eventually build off of. Anyone out there got one? Have anything good or bad to say about it? Worth the little extra money over the parkerized version? Basically I'm looking for any and all opinions.

Glad to see I'm not the only one being drawn toward cocked + locked.. and I think your right the positive 1911 comments I've read on the board are definately having an effect on me..

The greatest advantage of a stainless gun other than the ease of maintenance is the hassle-free refinishing when you finally decide to put some money into customizing it.

I bought a Springfield Stainless Loaded a few years back, and had the front strap and dust shield recontoured. Refinishing involved a quick beadblasting. A blued gun would have been more expensive to refinish.

Even if you never do anything to that gun except carry and shoot it, a stainless Springfield is easily "reconditioned" by polishing out the scuff marks that accumulate with use.

The blued models are good guns, no reason the stainless shouldn't be.

The only thing I would look at is the price comparison between the base and Loaded models. You get quite a bit with the Loaded for a little extra money.

But, the base model is good if you want different "options" than the Loaded has to offer.

Good luck

Well I just got done talking to a dealer and it seems that the only model that is still available here to us in Md. is the stainless one. He said that the parkerized version is not (thats odd, no?). He gave me a quote of $557. While I'm sure thats more than what some of you would pay, I'm actually kind of surprised that its not more considering some of the other prices I have seen (taurus revolvers for nearly $500! :what: ).

Hopefully I can pick one of these guys for my Birthday, which is only a couple more months away.

Thanks to everyone for their replies and please keep opinions coming!

This one is $535 on auction, so your price looks pretty good.
