The used XD series pistols have been getting cheap lately. Maybe the new ones have, too? It seems like I've seen low prices on new ones, too, but haven't paid careful attention.

My ex FiL has a full-sized Springfield XD-something and it's a nice shooter, so I decided to get myself one if they got cheap enough.

A month or so ago I saw a used XD "compact" 9mm listed for sale by one of my favorite GB sellers for not much. I put in a bid and won it for $205.

I've been busy with refurbishing an old house, but I took the day off today to make a range trip. Here are my impressions of the XD:

Technically it's a "sub-compact" pistol? It's the same size as my G26 (bigger than the 365 and Hellcat and so forth). It holds 10+1. It's polymer and striker-fired. The only unusual feature is that it has a grip safety instead of a manual safety. That's okay with me.

It fits my XXL hands fine. I can reach all of the controls. It's easy to rack. The magazine is easy to load. The sights are normal three-dot. I could see them just fine.

The trigger is extremely good. I really, really liked the trigger. Light and crisp. After a few shots getting used to it, I shot very nice groups. I didn't shoot as well as usual today, but the XD was an exception. I shot it very accurately (for me).

I put about 50 rounds of mixed 9mm 115-grain range ammo through it with no malfunctions.

The XD will probably replace my Glock 26 as my road-trip pistol. I like the G26 just fine, but the XD fits my hand a little more comfortably and its trigger is amazing.

I'm very pleased to get such a nice pistol for so little money. :)

What you have there is an XD, not an XD "S" which are single stacks. Very good gun, I have one in 45 (XD45C), it's about G19 sized. I also have an XDS in 9 which takes a flush fit 7 round mag, with 8 and 9 rounders from the factory.

Enjoy it in good health :)

Oops. I could have just read it from the slide. Doh! Thanks for letting me know. I corrected it. :)

I have an 4” XD-9 and 3.3” XD-S and like them both. I think they are on the way out as Springfield seems to be pushing other platforms. The single stack is my carry gun. It’s very slim and light.

Glad you like it.
I have one and am quite happy with it, not a thing of beauty by any means but as I said before beauty is more than skin deep.
Remember if you are in a free state the normal mag cap is 13.

Very good gun. I have the Mod 2 version of this subcompact in both 9mm and .45acp. Both are good shooters. My Mod 2 subcompact in 9mm is longer in the grip than my Glock 26 due to it holds 13 rounds in the flush mag and 16 rounds in the extended mag.

I'm always happy to buy good-quality, good-shooting pistols for cheap because they've fallen out of favor with the general public, or were never particularly favored in the first place.

IMHO, if you're in the market for a used service type pistol, these are a steal in the low $200's. If I understand correctly, there's a single-stack compact, the double-stack compact I have, a 4" service model, and a 5" model.

I have several XD pistols ranging from the XD9SC such as yours, some XD9 full size, and a XD45 Tactical. I love these pistols, the grip angle fits me far better than the other poly pistols.
