Yesterday evening I carried my 3" SP101 in a relatively new Simply Rugged pancake holster, OWB, mounted on my 1.5" gunbelt. I was embarrassed by the squeaky leather - sounded like an old spaghetti western, all of the creaking going on at my side. One lady looked at me and apparantly thought I had gastrointestinal issues, as she looked at me VERY strangely after a particularly loud creak.

I know leather does this, but this is obnoxious. Will it get better as the holster breaks in or is this something I will continue hearing?

Q

'til it gets "broken in" you may need to practice your "pardon me ma'am" or "dern frijoles'" or "you'd better get upwind ma'am" or "Don't worry ma'am thats just my brand new holster"
Maybe you could take your leather off and try to reproduce the movement that causes the "noise" and strategically apply a little olive oil.

My Granpappy and Pappy always said you could tell the quality of a saddle or other leather stuff by how much it squeaks.
Cure for a squeaky saddle was a whole bunch of wet saddle blankets took out from under it.

For other stuff, talcum or baby powder works.

I've been having the same problem. It seems part if it is caused by the leather where it touches the the trigger guard and top of the slide.

Talcom powder, or hose it down where the squeek is with Camp-Dry silicone spray.

Break in and a good leather preservative will help. I use Obenauf's, it reduces squeaks and helps keep the leather waterproof and stiff.

If you see two pieces of polished leather riveted together that may be the squeak. If so you will have to lube it with mink oil or something like it made for leather.

I wanted to clarify my original comment - I did not intend my comments to be a negative critique of Mr. Leahy or Simply Rugged. In hindsight, it looks very unfavorable (i.e., "...this is ridiculous").

His work is very good and I have no issue with his holster or his work. My comments were directed at the noise my holster and belt were generating, being ridiculous that I was being made by my leather's squeek. I was not trying to be unfavorable or uncharitable against Simply Rugged. My apologies for unclear wording.

Thank you for the help - I'll try some of the suggestions when I get home.

IIRC Simply Rugged suggests a lil bit of shoe polish at the mating points.
