I've been on the waiting list for a SR1911 for almost a year now, and I'm getting tired of waiting. I'm still a big fan of the looks and the reported value for the money spent, but I'm getting antsy. My lack of patience and a promotion at work have moved the timeline up on a new purchase. I've started to look at the S&W E-Series. I can get it, brand new, for under $800 out the door, and the Ruger for $590 + tax.

I'm wondering what THR's thoughts are on the matter, and if there are any other 1911's in the $6-800 range that you'd consider looking at. I'm steering clear of Kimbers at this point, but am still pretty open to looking around.

Thanks,

I do not have any experience with the ruger or s&w, but i have a springfield and love it. With a little looking around they have 3 or 4 models in your price range.

If the Ruger is what you want, and you don't want to pay a premium for one, then wait on the Ruger. That way, you'll get the Ruger at the price you wanted.

If acquiring the Ruger is worth more than waiting for one to arrive in order to get it at the quoted price, buy one off GunBroker at a premium. That way, you'll get the Ruger without having to wait so long.

If you don't necessarily want the Ruger given the wait time or current market price for the available ones... then just buy whatever it is that you must have and let the Ruger go.

It makes you wonder...
Is the shop, with which you've been placed on a waiting list, occasionally receiving SR1911s and simply turning them out to the GunBroker bidders so that they can sell them for $700+ rather than selling them to you at $590? :scrutiny:

I have a Springfield,Sig C3, Colt MkIV, and S&W E series. The Sig and S&W are my favorites. I have shot a Ruger SR1911, and will own one when available, but still prefer the E series.

I've been to two gun shows in the past month and each time, there have been vendors with the SR1911 for sale. Perhaps supply has started to catch up with demand.

Same here. I never see any SR1911s in stores, but see them often at gun shows, usually selling right around the $699 mark.

Look at the SIGS while your shopping, great gun for their prices.

That's what I did.

I got tired of waiting for a SR1911 and started looking at an alternative 1911 in stainless steel. Went to my local dealer and he happened to have a stainless S&W E Series pistol and a Sig traditional reverse two-tone, also stainless steel. After comparing the two, I bought the Sig and it has turned into one of my favorite range guns.

I also got tired of waiting on the Ruger SR1911. It's a shame, it seems like a great value and gets solid reviews.

I ended up with a Colt Gold Cup in stainless (2011 version), SA Range Officer and a SA Micro 1911. I have no regrets.

S&W E-Series nice looking pistols, but their trigger for the price is not so nice. Ruger SR1911, cast stainless, OK trigger for a sub $700 pistol. Two inexpensive good shooters, the Hi Standard for around $420, great trigger for twice the money, and a real suprise the Taurus PT1911. Taurus all forged, and a 3# trigger to boot, usually found for under $600.
