Opinions? Assuming that both fit and feel right, and this is for range use not carry. Is there good reasons to consider one or the other?

I like XD guns better because the grip is a bit wider. They have a great rep too. And I really like my XDs.

Either will serve you well.

I've been really happy with my XD 45 Tactical which I've had since 2008. I tend to like Rugers too, but I've never shot or even handled the SR 45.

I have an SR45 and it is an absolute tack driver and has been since I first picked it up. My buddy has an Xd 45 that's been reliable for him and I shoot that pretty good as well. The Xd 45 has a better track record than the SR45 as I see more problems being reported about the SR45 than any other in the SR line. I'm the only person that has one out of all my shooting buddies and it's been %100 after the very first magazine when I had 1 failure to feed on the 10th round. I've since put over 1000 rounds through the gun with no problems. The Xd has a 13 round mag compared to the rugers 10 rounder if that makes a difference. While I shoot the ruger better the Xd does however feel like a more solid built gun. It's going to come down to personal preference here. As much as I feel the Xd is more of a quality handgun I'm not trading my sr45 in anytime soon for one. I hope this helps even though it's clear as mud

Oh then there's the whole magazine disconnect safety thing on the SR line of guns. Mine went bye bye immediately as it literally takes less than 2 mins to take it out. I loathe magazine disconnect safeties

I'm an XD fan; I have both the XD-9 and the XD-45, both in the service model (4" barrel).

Haven't shot the SR-45. All I know is that XD's are tanks, and go and go. It's been a quandary as when I have some extra firearm money, I have to decide if I want ANOTHER XD, or should I get a different model/manufacturer?

I keep asking myself if I would want a spare, and then I remind myself that the XD doesn't need a spare.

Thanks for your opinions. I'm having troubles finding either model to fondle:(. I hope to get to the big city to inspect them both. Any idea if a Sd 45 mod 2 is in the works? That might be worth the wait.

It's certainly possible but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I have both the SR45 and a XD45 4" Service model with thumb safety. Both required a trip back to the factory when I first got them. The XD's ambi safety levers wouldn't follow each other correctly and had to be replaced. The Ruger's front sight dovetail was cut crooked and the slide wouldn't lock back on an empty mag at times. Ruger replaced the slide and adjusted the slide lock mechanism. When I got it back it still wouldn't lock back on one of the mags, I called Ruger and they sent me one free in the mail. Both customer service departments were excellent to work with. As far as shooting the guns, the XD has been flawless through approx 800 rounds. Excellent accuracy and soft recoil.. The Ruger has has three light strikes through approx 1400 rounds all with PMC ammo, all other ammo has been flawless. Again excellent accuracy and maybe even a little softer recoil than the XD. I put a Hogue Handall slip on rubber grip on the Ruger and I like it better than the thin factory frame grip. The factory grip on the XD fits my hand fine and I haven't had any problem with the grip safety. The Ruger has adjustable rear sights and the XD has fixed sights. The XD has better capacity (13) than the Ruger (10) but for a range gun that doesn't matter much. I also have a Stoeger Cougar 8045 that has been flawless through about 1200 rounds and a S&W M&P Midsize 45 flawless through about 500 rounds. I replaced the M&P's factory trigger with an Apex polymer trigger due to trigger sting. For carry the M&P would be the best, for range use they're all about equal. For the money, the Stoeger was the best buy. If you can, try them for fit before you buy as they all feel different. If I could only keep one and considering accuracy, capacity, feel in hand, it would probably be the XD.
