I have been seeing alot of people saying that there new SR9c is not racking properly and having trouble with the gun itself! It seems that alot of the people who are saying this have been doing a cleaning once they get home with there new purchase! Is it because they are removing the factory lubricant? I have had no problems with mine at all, when I got mine home I did not do the cleaning that everyone has been saying and so far 250+ rounds have gone throu it without any problems to speak of! I did finally do the feild strip and cleaning after the 250+ rounds, but everything is still working like a champ! What is ya'lls opinion on this, could it be because of the intial cleaning that is causing the problems? Just an idea that seemed to be obvious.

wow.. that post is just gonna cause a brand war battle.

The SR9c owner in me says "what problems?", "I haven't heard of any on ALL the forums i read and 3-4 days a week shooting at a public range" and especially "the one i own"

The Doubter says "You only have 250rds in a gun, which is nothing" and "Talk to me when you have 500-1,000 at least"...

I personally don't buy into the whole talk about magic lube on the glock or sr9 or whatever. I clean my guns when i get them and no manual is gonna change my mind on that.. If the gun requires a magic grease that basically has a minor abrasive in it to smooth stuff out, then i don't want it.

My SR9c and SR9 are perfect. the SR9c has 1,800 according to my notes and my sr9 has 3,270 rounds through it. Both of them were cleaned from the very beginning and lubed with my oil of choice which is FP-10.

I'm not wanting to start a brand war battle, I was on the Ruger forum (due to owning the SR9c) which I love and plan to reach the 500 to 1000+ rounds club. :) On this other site a few of the posts have these statements of the SR9c being hard to rack and every single person who stated this also said after they did there first cleaning they had the problem, but after few more 50 to 100 rounds the problem resolves itself. Just to make it clear I was not saying anything about a wonder lub, I thought 2+2=4 and was asking a question that came to mind. I just did not know if cleaning the gun out of the box was a good idea or not! I just thought i would ask the question to get the answer. Thanks. :)

Most sub-compact pistols are hard to chamber a round. The recoil spring on these guns needs to be much stiffer because the slide is lighter. Kahrs are also hard to chamber.

This is a serious failure report. Do you have the proper description of the racking problems ???

Is this problems occurs out of box, or some shoots after ???

I don't want to approach as; "did those people removed the empty mag ?". But it will be highly appreciate if you may describe the failure in details.

Cheers..

from what i could find in the Ruger forum, it was afterthe first shots after buying and what seemed to be the problem was OLD Winchester ammo bought at Walmart. White box with red lettering! After shooting a couple of mags with hotter ammo the problem resloved itself! Guess just keep an eye out for BAD ammo and you wont have a problem.

The spring set-up on the SR-9 C is quite stiff, rack the slide to the rear and lock it, leave it that way for a day or so, and it tends to cure itself.

I have a guy that has Winchester contacts (his duaghter is a competition shooter for winchester) and he also has contacts within Winchester. He is going to look into and try and get some info on the buzz going on about the Winchester white box with red lettering being the cause of a lot of failure to feeds and not racking! May take a few weeks or months, but this guy will get some kind of answer. Will keep posted once an answer is obtained!

I've never had issues with that ammo, in any of the guns I use it in, in any caliber for that matter. And that range of guns goes from a Hi Point (and that company says WWB is not recommended for them) to an XD, a Glock and a couple of Rugers.

My SR9c shoots WWB just fine. I did notice that the slide was very stiff at 1st but it has loosened up quite a bit. It's a great shooting little pistol

I bought an SR9c used and have run a few hundred rounds through it without any issues. It's light, has a light crisp trigger pull, points naturally and hits where I point at it. If I am not carrying my Ruger LCR I am carrying my SR9c. Great gun!
