I have box of Remington 6 1/2's that I had planned to use in my 223 loads. They box says that they are not appropriate for 223's and that is the only rifle round I load. I am starting to reload 38 special. Given the size of the 38case, can I use the 6 1/2's safely in 38 special rounds? I shoot them in a S&W model 14 combat masterpiece, so my guess is that the hammer impact is fairly strong. Thanks

Yes they will work fine as long as you reduce from a max charge and work up a load.

Truth be known, they are not only softer, but probably more akin to a SM Pistol Magnum primer in power.

The Rem 6 1/2 is designed more for smaller lower pressure rifle calibers like the .22 Hornet / .218 Bee.
