Hey everyone!

So in an effort to get everything ready for my new barrel for my savage 6.5x284 Norma I am wondering if I could use this powder and bullet combo

I used it last deer season with Smashing Success in my 6.5 PRC and I’d love to be able to use this powder for both

I am waiting to hear back from Hodgdon on the combination but I felt like it merited being a thread here

So any thoughts on this situation??

Well does anyone have any ideas on how/if I can make this combo work?

For what you're wanting to do with that rifle, a ball powder - even an advance ball powder - wouldn't be my first choice.

Under the heavy bullets I expect you'll be shooting, H1000 and Retumbo are the two I would look at first, H4350 on the faster side.

Never thought of it that way thank you for the insight

I haven't personally shot any of the Staball HD, and maybe they learned something as they developed Staball Match which they embedded into HD (which is assuming they fixed something in Staball Match which was broken in Staball 6.5), but overall, I think Staball HD is just a slower powder in the Staball line, and ultimately, it's a double-base ball powder, so it'll drop consistently, but if you don't need superior drop speed, you'll get more consistent velocity and less temperature sensitivity from these other powders I mentioned.
