I have a early 80's Remington 700 ,270 Win and I was thinking about re-barreling it. Who makes a Stainless Steel Remington 700 .270 Win Fluted Barrel that matches the Remington's factory barrel contour?

A big plus would be if the barrel was black too.

Lots of companies. Shilen, PacNor, Bartlein, E.R Shaw, Douglas to name a few. A stainless barrel would need to be coated (Cerakote, Duracoat, etc.) to be black. The model rifle you have matters too, as different models would have different factory contours.

But why do you want to rebarrel?

Unless there have been 1000's of rounds through that barrel, it's unlikely to be shot out. .270 Win is not exactly a barrel-burner.

It was my Dad's and when he passed I got it. After I got it home and cleaned I noticed it has spot of rust in the barrel.

Fluting would also reduce the weight some.

I'd shoot it first. The rust likely won't have a negative impact on accuracy. If it proves to be a good shooter I wouldn't spend the money on it to save a few ounces. You can use a lighter scope and mounts and save a lot more weight than the barrel fluting will save, and for a lot less expense.

If it doesn't shoot up to your expectations then I'd proceed as planned. I actually like fluting as long as it doesn't add a tremendous cost to the project. It usually doesn't cost that much more when it is done at the time of manufacture, but I don't think I'd pay to have it done to an existing barrel.

Remington must make some fluted stainless barrels. A friend just bought a new Rem 700 in .220 Swift and it came with a stainless fluted barrel...
