About every other magazine my BM fails to extract and jams when the next round is stripped off the magazine and has nowhere to go. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone solve this problem?

I keep reading people never having problems with these pistols.

From what you say, the extractor is not pulling the case from the chamber. The first thing you should do is try another brand of ammo; some steel case brands are notorious for having extraction problems.

You should also inspect the extractor. Is the extractor hook in good shape? How hard is it to get the case out? Will it extract on the second try if you remove the magazine and release the slide? If not, then how do you get the case out of the chamber?

The Star BM is a pretty decent gun for the price, but it is not perfect. It is prone to common failures of the system, plus a few of its own.

I bought a Star BKM, which is the exact same gun, only with an alloy frame. I had the same problem. The extractor would fail to grab the shell casing, and it was happening about 2-3 times per mag. I only had it a couple days, and returned it to the gun shop and they gave me full credit for it. I was really bummed, because I thought it was the perfect size for a 9MM, and it felt great in my hand. A gun that has a 30% jam rate is absolutely useless.

Star BM failure toe extract

 Well, OK, DP. Just how did you manage to get your toe stuck in your Star BM? :what:

Sorry, DP -- Just couldn't let that one go by. :D :D :D

Would this be a case of ............

(wait for it)

My toe once failed to extract but I certainly did not go posting about it on a public forum!!:uhoh:

I used to have that problem with Silver Bears**t ammo. I guess when the barrel got hot the lacquer would melt and stick. It done it on my BM, Arcus 94 and XD. I fixed it by throwing away what was left of that crap.

Funny my Star BM really likes Wolf and Silver Bear. There is no lacquer coating on Silver Bear -- at least not what I got at a gun show for $80/1000.

Check the extractor hook, check the spring for tension, check the chamber for roughness, pits or corrosion. Check that the magazine is not letting the rounds come up under recoil and knocking the empty off the extractor prematurely.

Try different brand of ammo some guns don't work with some ammo and vice-versa.

I had to replace the mag spring to get reliable feed with the 147gr Silver Bear JHP as I'd get the occasional nose dive jam with the original spring which was fine with 115gr FMH and 125gr lead reloads.
