starline brass

That sounds like the makings of a good song......

Challenge accepted…couldn’t sleep.

Think “Okie from Muskogee” for the tempo…

All of my new brass, is made by Starline,
I’ve found that all the rest, just don’t hold up.
I used to mix it all, but got a message,
When my stouter loads all split and just gave up.

Starline keeps my primers seating snugly,
I don’t spend too much time in trimming length,
And when I want to really test my Rugers,
I can happily load their bullets to full strength.

Lots of newbies think new brass is kinda spendy,
They’d rather get it free, from ranges waste.
I’ve done that too, and it’s fine for just plinking,
But my serious rounds require a dependable case.

I’ll end this ballad now without more misery,
Surprised if your still reading this dumb song.
But Starline brass is simply worth the effort,
Because for ammo junkies, it just last so long!

Starline brass is good to go.

They work a little differently on the ordering side.
"In-Stock" means they have it on the shelf ready to ship.
"Backorder" means that it is in the queue to be made and they are taking orders. Go ahead and place your order. It should ship in a few weeks.
"Out of Stock" means it is all gone and not scheduled to be made in the near future.
That's interesting that highly popular calibers like 44 Mag, 10mm and 357 mag are out of stock/no backorder. Makes me think more is purchased by botique ammo makers like BB n' stuff.

Clever but I’m going to have to go to YouTube to see/hear Merl first. Can’t recall the tune.

Can't speak to opinion of others, but have loaded some in 308 Win and it was fine. Of note, the Starline factory sits immediately adjacent to Sierra Bullet factory in Sedalia, MO. I understand both outfits relocated to MO at about the same time. They may be related.

When I go down the list of all the calibers they offer, some of them look to me to be pretty obscure. At the same time, 6mm Rem is gone. Hope to get them to change that. Not many new rifles sold as 6mm Rem, but a pretty large base of existing. Ammo is drying up and so is brass. They would corner the market on the brass if they offered it.

Just down the road from me. Sedalia is where the MO state fair is every year so I am there at least once a year in general. I can't be on my feet like I once could so I have not been in a long time, miss it.

The brass is IMHO just fine. I have never had an issue with it, and with brass I am all over the board. In todays world you really can't be too picky.

I think they use the backorders as a way to gauge how big a lot of brass to make. They make enough to fill the backorders and a little overrun to put on the shelf, then move on to the next. No reason to keep a bunch on the shelf and tie up capital in inventory and warehouse space. Keep checking back as they run the more popular ones more often.

I'm still on the first loading of the 500 pieces of .357 I ordered earlier this year, so can't speak to longevity. I did notice however that maybe 20% or so are shorter than the SAAMI trim to length. I sort those out and will use them on plinking loads, but for full power hunting loads I want a consistent case length for consistent roll crimp.

Starline is better than nothin. Federal is about the best commercial. Winchester is okay and Remington is pretty good too, if ya like it. It is softer and thinner. I like it all really.

Starline is short for revolver brass I had to trim my 44 special 1.145 instead of 1.150 like I was doing. Guess I coulda let the crimp be whatever and turned a blind eye to consistency? That .005 adds up to a million dollars a year probably, so they are scrimping wherever they can.

My brother who passed away at the end of March this year, and had been reloading sense he was about 15, and loaded for 41 mag, 38/357 mag, 38 super, 9mm, 45 acp, always said starline was almost match quality brass, at least as far as he was concerned. He also load 30-06, 270 winchester, 243, 45-70, always tried to use norma cases for rifle if he could get it. I have a COLT 1911, that started life as a 38 super, and found out could change the barrel, bushings, and magazines, and have a 9 mm. I purchased an ED BROWN, match barrel, and bushing, and 9 mm magazines, and have no problem

Sorry for the loss of your brother, Ronald.

I like starline.

Hardness seems to vary. I can feel it when sizing in some lots. Especially obvious in 454 casull, excessive effort to size a virgin case and if it's a full load it will probably split first firing. Maybe 1 in 20 in a batch of 500 are like that, most are gone now. It may be unpopular but I really like federal cases, they're not highly desired but always worked well for me. On the other hand, winchester revolver cases are bottom of the barrel to me, inconsistent rim thickness and weird dimensions at times. I've got a lot of decent win cases but if they're goofy at all I don't bother with them.

I have some Federal 38 special brass that I lost count on how many times it’s been reloaded. From wadcutter to just under plus p loads and very few cracked or split cases.

Most all of my revolver and pistol brass is Starline, I've been a customer for about as long as they have been in business.

Since they started offering rifle cases I have added to the list. I can't say that it is equal to say Norma or Lapua but for my uses its just fine. Loads good and gives groups plenty good enough for hunting purposes.

6mm Rem is easy to form from .257 Roberts, 7x57, .25-06, .270, etc.
Not finding 6mm Rem brass doesn't mean you can't shoot.

Starline is top quality.

Starline sets the bar for top quality brass available to reloaders.
Botique ammo Manufacturers use it too!
I've wondered if the LAX Ammo brass is made by Starline, just with the LAX headstamp.
I love Starline brass. Excellent pistol brass and damn good rifle brass.
Here's a hint -- always buy Starline brass directly from Starline. It is typically cheaper than other sources. My last order had free shipping and no tax.
EDIT -- hint #2 -- when their website says 'backordered' it typically ships within a week or two.

For some reason I thought LAX was made by Extreme but then that doesn’t mean Starline didn’t actually produce it.

I'm a big fan of Xtreme bullets. They make the best plated bullets in the game from my experiences with all the other competitors in their domain.

LAX ammunition however, would be the last loaded ammo I would ever purchase, if I had to buy loaded ammunition ever again.....

I know of at least two boutique ammo makers who use Xtreme plated bullets; LAX and Precision One. I’ve never tried LAX but I have tried P-1 and they make quality ammo. I’m pretty sure their .40S&W 165gr PHP is loaded with TiteGroup. I duplicated it to within a few fps using the recommended load straight from the Xtreme manual.

I guess I always considered "Botique" ammo different than what your describing.
I've always considered Underwood, Cor-Bon and Buffalo Bore, among others, to be "Botique" ammo.
Usually with "magical" ballistics and top-of-industry materials....and owners with big egos.

I just use the plain old definition of a boutique: “a small shop or a small specialty department within a larger store, esp. one that sells fashionable clothes and accessories or a special selection of other merchandise.“ Colliers.
I figure if a company makes special runs and sells to the public they’re a boutique. Kinda like Williams-Sonoma or Prescriptives. But ammo.
