Stashed guns

I don't have the budget for it, and I'm not convinced it's practical or even a good idea.

In the event of a home invasion, you probably won't have time to run over and swing back a painting or flip up the couch cushions. Mr and Mrs Smith is only a movie.

Even if you were caught in the middle of a nap, a slow pistol draw would only take a few seconds in comparison.

Besides, we have guests with children every now and then. It's an order of magnitude easier to keep track of and secure (and afford) one gun rather than a dozen guns hid all over the house.

A long arm by the door? Maybe. Otherwise, a pistol on the hip is so much faster, safer, and cheaper I'm not sure why you'd bother otherwise.

With the thousands of dollars you'd save on spare pistols, you could stock up on smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, beefed up doors, first aid supplies, backup medication, a security system, security cameras, and all kinds of other emergency supplies. They are more likely to be useful even if they aren't as exciting.

I used to EDC a flashlight, but the light on my cellphone is actually pretty decent so now I rely on that instead.

Black Friday Maglites are super cheap, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to have a ton of them lying around. In the even of a power outage, everyone in the house will want a flashlight, and you will still want dedicated flashlights to light up individual rooms. Don't forget spare batteries.

I have. Coffee table drawer. Night stand. Leaning in the corner. Other drawers.

Not as many now because they go in quick access safes, but those safes (for handguns) can go a lot of places

Well, I live in a pretty safe neighborhood, but I do have a gun within easy reach no matter where I am in the house.
And if I’m in the garage, there’s an AK-47 under the work (Loading) bench.

We're pretty remote and about 200 yards off the highway so we rarely get unexpected visitors. We have a 12 ga pump with 00 buck by the front door which is a solid steel door, as are the side and rear doors. Double short barrel Stevens in the living room by the TV with 00 buck. Several pistols (1911A1) stashed around the house and in the bedroom. Another 12 ga pump in my workshop along with a Beretta 92. We have no ankle biters and no visitors who have chilluns. Central monitored alarm with radio and backup, and motion activated lights all around, and a driveway alarm. We should have adequate time to grab something.

My EDC is on my person anytime I'm not in bed or in the shower, it's always within reach. I think stashing guns throughout your house is stupid and just asking for an intruder to find one before you realize he's broken in. My carry gun goes under a pillow on my bed when I'm sleeping and my loaded shotgun is well hidden but within reach, and I'm between it and both bedroom doors. All my other guns are locked up so they can't be used against me.

Meh, I keep my Glock 19 and 642 in my nightstand. Both are are carry guns. Belt or pocket, respectively. 642 might be around the house or out in the shop. Sometimes in the bathroom, if you want me to get personal.

I do keep a 12 gauge Mossberg behind my office door. Right off the bedroom.

The muzzle loaded Hawken's rifle hanging above my mantel isn't just for decoration, if you know what I mean. ;)

A .54 ball with a full charge of powder behind it will sour your milk real fast. If I can't get to one of my other guns, I feel it would do well and double as a stout club after firing.
And then you can escape like Batman or a ninja with the smoke screen! Sweet.

I'm a pants on, gun on, sort of fella. But I have 2 spare pistols in my drawer, an AR in the closet behind my coats and jackets, and a shotgun up on the top shelf of the closet... all in the master bedroom. All other guns are in the locked cabinet upstairs, other than project guns and non-functional wall hangers, which are in cases in the man cave closet. Have a couple teenage kids in the house, so nothing stashed at random. I trust them, but not their friends. Wife also has friends come over, and some of them have small kids, so nothing stashed. I've found that if it can be found, it will be found by a toddler.

Not really. When I am home my carry pistol is on my waist. When I switch to jams or lounging cloths I downsize to a lighter pistol in a sneaky pete holster clipped to the waistband.

Remember to keep the chamber empty for the sake of firefighters trying to save your property. Rounds in mags or cylinders aren't an issue, but a round coming out of the barrel could harm them.

My go to AR is propped up on the wall next to my bed. Pest control bolt action .22 by the fireplace in my bedroom.

My sidearm is on me if I'm awake and dressed.

I have a dual output Surefire for EDC. If its not in my pocket, its within reach.

My eight year old daughter has a mini maglite, as well as a few of the cheap flashlights.

For a power outage, we use glow sticks. One on each end of the hallway to light the path to the bathroom, one for a "night light" that she plays with until unreasonable hours for an eight year old... They're only a buck each, less of you buy 25 or more online.

No. I keep my HD handgun in my quick access handgun safe that is bolted to my bed frame. If I don't have my CCW on me at home, I always have my P3AT in my pocket.

I do. A lot of them. Most are pretty well hidden, some are out in the open. Most of the ones that are in the open are in the process of being repaired/cleaned and not functioning. I am never out of arms reach from a gun, plus 99% I am carrying. I have reasons though.

I don't have kids. I live in the middle of nowhere and we don't have a police dept. My closest neighbor is my brother, who is very well armed at all times. We live on a private road and the 3 families that have access to it will report unknown vehicles to each other. I have a gated driveway that is closed if I am home or away. I have security cameras, a walk in vault/safe room and an alarm system. I have a very strange schedule and nobody knows if I will be home or not on any given day (except me of course). I also have 2 VERY large dogs (Great Dane and a German Shepherd) and the Shepherd isn't friendly to strangers. I know it sounds like a lot but I am a former LEO and the company that my wife and I own is in an industry that isn't well liked by certain elements of our society. You can't be too careful!

I'm convinced that any reasonably experienced thief probably knows to look in any place I could think of to stashing a gun so I don't.

I just keep my M&P9C on my person at all times at home

I live alone, rarely have visitors. When in my house I am never more than ten feet away from a gun, no matter what room I am in.

I have a loaded .357 mag in my computer room, where I spend a lot of time.
I also have one stashed in the place I keep my guns.

(as well as the night stand)
