I was looking at prices on some 9mm plinking rounds, like the Silver Bear 115 gr FMJ round, with a zinc plated steel case. Good price versus comparable stuff in brass cases.

My question is, are steel case rounds not recommended (and I'd be buying this stuff by the case of 1000) for a G19? Better to stick with brass cased ammo for large scale plinking?

I'd be shooting ALOT of this stuff for the next couple of months as my G19 would be a "bug-out" gun for the upcoming Hurricane season and I want to make sure everything is in order before Aug/Sept hits.

I personally have never shot steel cased ammo through any of my handguns, and don't plan on it either. I only buy steel cased for my AK47, and have no problems buying brass cased such as WWB and UMC for my Glock 19. I normally don't run more than 500 rounds of practice ammo through it each range trip. I would think Glocks would be eat up steel cased ammo without much problem, but cleaning the gun could take some time.

Steel case ammo has worked fine for me in all the guns I've tried. I have not found it to be dirty or otherwise problematic.

I shot 1000's of 40 and 45 wolf through a variety of handguns without problem... Then I began having problems with both calibers in XD's, Glocks, 1911, Sig, and HK's. Mostly, the rounds would split down the side after firing and fail to extract.

The last wolf round I fired ruptured causing the back half to extract, and the front half to remain in the chamber. I ended up taking it home and driving a small punch between the chamber and the round, forcing the round to bend inwards, allowing me to remove it. I gave away around 500 rounds of 40 and 223 after that happened.

I was very disappointed because I had such good luck with Wolf for 5 years solid prior to this. For anyone who might follow ammo changes, this incident happened 10/06 with ammo purchased earlier in the year.

A Colt representative, who will remain anonymous, said that Russian steel ammo is the communist's revenge on America for loosing the Cold war.
