Which do you prefer?

Steel

Polymer

I have owned three polymer 9's. I still have a S&W 99, but am wondering if I am missing something by not trying a non-polymer 9mm.

I am also interested...

I love the looks of the Browning Hi-power but wonder if I should be looking at a Beretta (alloy frame) or dare I say it... plastic?

Thanks

PR

I had to vote poly, the pistol in my holster is a poly 9mm and my two poly .40s would feel let down if I didn't confidently vote their way.

Though my favorite 9mm is my alloy framed PCR. Wish I could vote "no preference"

Most of my guns are poly-framed, but to me, hoisting a steel gun just feels right.

steel/polmer

14 ounces vs 24 ounces and higher??????

full time range gun, full time ccw gun?????

I say get one of each:

one polymer frame
one alloy frame
one steel frame
one stainless frame

Both, plus lightweight alloys. Colt Commander and Lightweight Commander in 9x19, and similar 1911s, are great metal frame 9mms. Likewise the BHP which also been made with an aluminum frame. CZ makes some great poly and metal frame 9mms too. The great S&W 3rd Gen. autos chambered in 9mm were offered in steel, aluminum, and even scandium frames. SIG P series are another great group of metal frame autos offered in 9mm.

There have also been some great plastic frame 9mms from Glock, HK, Springfield / IM Metal, S&W, and others.

I like plastic frame and metal frame semi-autos. You have some very nice plastic frame 9mms, but you should at least shoot a few of the classic metal frame 9mm pistols for the experience.

Had to vote Poly.

The Glock is absolutely butt ugly ... but it is lighter than all steel and goes BANG! for sure every time you pull the trigger. (in my case 12 times with the G26)

I didn't vote because I don't have a preference.

I have a Browning High Power and a Glock 19 and I like them equally well.

They're both excellent belt guns. The Glock 19 is a little better as a CCW gun but not overwhelmingly so.

I've went through the polymer/hi capacity stage in my life when I was a bit younger. The new wore off fairly quick with them to me. There was just no "pride of ownership" to me with the polymers.

The only 9mm I have now is a nice Dan Wesson 1911 I got about a month ago.
