I put a Kart E-Z fit barrel in a Kimber to build a bullseye gun, good fit and lock-up.
The lock-up was tight - the lower lugs wore in and smoothed through about 1000 rounds and shot very small groups at 50 yds.

Then the classic stem bind reared it's ugly head. Slide not returning to battery, and cresent mark on the case near the mouth.

So I checked the extractor and filed some rough tool marks and filed and polished the parts of the extractor that contact the case rim.

I also lightly stoned the breech face of the slide and broke the sharp edge of the Kart barrel where the ramp breaks over to the chamber - it was surprisingly sharp.

I changed from Checkmate wadcutter magazines to Checkmate hybrids.

The gun now is reliable with waddcutters as it was. I did all the "fixes" at one time so I don't know which part was most responsible for the improvement.

I learned all this at the various websites 1911Tuner posts on, Thanks Johnny.
