I recently got an old stevens 73 single shot .22 in trade and am interested in any available info on this model. No serial so thats a starting point age wise. What range of years produced ect., crossover models under other names?

The Savage Stevens 73 is the same as the 63. I have one that was given to me years ago. I refinished the stock, and I'm looking for someone who wants to teach their kid to shoot to give it to. Unfortunately, the extractor is shot and it means I need to pay $15 for a replacement.

The 63 was the adult version, I think. All the 73's I've seen are youth rifles. They're not worth very much. Around $75 seems to be the going rate, if you can find one in working condition. I've had mine completely apart. It's honestly a very trashy gun. The barrel is held to the receiver by a spread tang, not by any screws. The sole stock screw keeps it from turning or backing out when installed. I think the stock is worth more as a decent piece of timber than the gun itself is.

yeah I didn't think it was worth anything. What a difference two screws to keep action locked with stock makes.

I had mine apart and theres 1 screw that goes into threaded hole on rear of barrel near throat.

Any idea of production date ranges?

No idea on date. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say no later than mid-1980s, though. I don't think these guns would pass modern muster after that point.
