I've spent near a year and a half looking for this old Stevens bolt assembly. It works good but it has a couple problems. You can see in the photo the nickel/chrome is chipped and badly worn. If you look close at the rim of the bolt head at the groove edge you can see a small piece has broken off. Next to the bolt assembly is a new old stock bolt head that I got from Numrich. They say it is for my gun. But, you can tell it's not exactly right. There is a flat spot cut into the side. I guess you would call it a bolt stop. When you pull the bolt back the edge of the flat spot will catch on the head of the trigger. Pull the trigger and the bolt can be removed from receiver. Compare the flat spot on the new/old head to the bolt assembly and you see it's about a half inch longer. That's the problem. It allows the bolt to travel to far back before stopping. There is a tit in the receiver that fits into that groove and aligns the extractor. If the bolt travels to far back the tit will come out of the groove and the extractor will be out of alignment. I know I will never find the correct head. In my year and a half of looking for the assembly I never found Any parts except at Numrich and they have it totally wrong. My question is, How can I make this bolt head work? This bolt head is right in every other way. It's just allowed to travel to far back. Any ideas? 20200423_150109.jpg 20200423_093356_resized.jpg

That new part looks like it may be after a version change of the model. If the parts were the other way around you could remove metal. But I don,t know how you would ad it to the specs of the old bolt. Good luck

What caliber/gauge is this? Perhaps make a filler piece to fit in the cut and silver solder/screw/pin to the new bolt. Or take both to a real gunsmith/machinist and have him duplicate the part with the cut in the right place with the right dimensions.

It's a 410. It's a hundred $ gun. I already have a couple hundred in it. It's a hobby/pastime for me so that's ok. BUT, My sweet wonderful wife of 55 years would absolutely and very thoroughly kick my rear end out into the back yard if I added the cost of a gunsmith/machinist to that. I'll just leave it as is for now and go on to my next project . Maybe I'll come across the correct bolt head in the near future.

Actually I have another 410 bolt head for another model that I have no use for. If I could figure a way to slice a half inch piece off and silver solder in place. I think that would work but how in the heck to slice the correct thickness.
