I'm not a big fan of plastic guns, but I've heard a few good things about the Steyr M-A1. I'm intrigued by both it's looks and it's price (on sale around here for $400).

Any feedback from owners?

I have one. I love it. Very short trigger travel distance. Nice trigger safety. Very ergonomic. I paid $429 for mine, so $400 isn't bad at all.
They don't seem to be selling very well, I don't know whether its a function of poor marketing or not. Mine has the trapezoid sights. Very quick target acquistion, very nice reset. I would recommend it. So far I have fed it over 1000 rds, nice mixture of defensive and fmj, Mine is a 9x19. No failures so far. Very pleased.

I did a mini report on mine the other day that you can find Here.
I have about 300rnds or so through it and I like it quite a bit. I'm still getting used to the grip angle though. It definitely requires some adjustment on my part.

I've got an older M40, an S9, and a new M40-A1.

They are amazing guns. In thousands of rounds, I've only had a couple FTFs, and those were in the first hundred rounds or so. Easy to hit with, and the bore axis reduces felt recoil. My .40s feel like 9mm. The 9mm feels about like, I don't know, maybe a .32 or so.

Go for it. For the quality of the gun you get, I think these are the best value on the market right now.

What a coincidence Turners Outdoorsman in California has the Steyr M-A1 .40 on sale for $399.98 starting Aug 16 thru the 22nd but the ad says they only have 100 available

For the same price you can get the CS 75 in .40.

I have an older M9, purchased new for $359 a few years ago. I was looking a lot at the Walther P99, mostly because of the grip and ergonomics. Once I tried the Steyr, it was no contest; the Steyr felt like I just put my hand into a custom fitted glove. I also liked the manual safety,(done away with in the M-A1 series), and the trapezoidal sights. My only two complaints are: the trigger is a little harder and grittier than my Glock's, and the slide being so wide for a 9mm. Other than that, I love my Steyr.

I had one of the first variants that I picked up from CDNN for less then $400. I ran a couple of hundred rounds through it and really liked. My buddy liked it a lot more then I did and now he owns it. I think they have marketing and distributor problems. The pistol was excellent quality and it is a wonder as to why there are so few of them around. I liked the safety on the first variant but they removed it on the next ones.

My most enjoyable pistol that I have. Accurate and reliable. Strange- I do not generally like polymer pistols. Go figure:D
