I would dare think I am like most people in that I do not usually holster or even pocket carry around the house in my sweats, or a robe, or even in my casual clothes deep into the evening or when I first get up.
However, without fail a few times a year, the door gets knocked on unexpectedly at night or early on a weekend morning. I have several stashed firearms at the ready if my pocket carry revolver or my IWB 1911A1 is not an easy fetch. I will carry one of these "invasion stashers" with me to the door just in case.
Every time, the door has been a neighbor or an unannounced relative. This state of affairs, due to the layout of my entry way, results in my stashing the weapon in my pants or robe. I don’t like freaking people out needlessly. In particular, several of my clueless relatives on my wife’s side are about as sheepleish as they come and the debate is certainly not worth the hassle. So. . . .
“Mexican Carry” is best left to a revolver or an auto with a manual safety on it.
Since whatever service caliber pieces I am into at the moment serve as the stash guns, I usually buy new ones with an eye towards it serving in that role. I was thinking of getting an S&W M&P9 because I like my wife’s, but then I can’t see sticking that thing into my waistband without a holster.
So instead, I find myself eyeing the Beretta PX4 and the CZ-SP01 because they can be just stuffed down the front or SOB without worrying about cloth in the trigger and only a slight CA pull weight.
Am I being a lunatic for rejecting “safety-less” autos solely because they have to be carried in a holster as best safety practice?
