I quit the old pagan ritual
I started casting and powder coating a few years ago when I started shooting weekly comps and was going through jacketed bullets like potato chips. Even at that, I considered casting and powder coating
a Pagan activity.... and ceremoniously chanted for 15 minutes while my toaster oven ticked away. Then one day, for giggles and grins, I picked up an ancient Lyman/Ideal #45 in perfect condition from Ebay. Couldn't pass it up.
I mounted it to an RCBS heater and started collecting dies and top punches. I setup a cauldron of bees wax, vaseline, castor oil, crayons and various other potions and started pouring my own lube sticks, searching for
the right consistency and mythical texture. I studied the scriptures of The Los Angeles Silhouette Club, especially the grimoire of "From Ingot to Target: A Cast Bullet Guide for Handgunners". I can now turn Bees wax
into a magical substance that cannot be found anywhere, even Gunbroker. I admit it. I went from fully jacketed to fully Pagan. I still powder coat, because it is expedient, cheap, clean and fast. But truth be told,
there is something about the dark side of waxy potions and working the handle of that Lyman. Double, double, toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
