Compressed Wool Felt AKA Engineering Felt is available in sheets and rolls. Technical Felt AKA Industrial Felt is available in sheets only. Both felts are available in various qualities, thickness and density.

which kind would i want????
 
I use SAE F-1 1/8" wool felt. An alternative is F-3 1/8" wool felt. I ordered mine in 2" wide strips 10ft long from here:

They also have woven felt which I suspect Wonder Wads are made of but I haven't checked it out yet.

This is enough felt to make approximately 1000 wads from each type of felt for the felt cost of about $1.20/100. Now, if you add in labor, lube & electricity you probably could just go buy them from Circle Fly as un-lubed 1/2" fiber wads. Then lube and split them into twos or threes:
1/2” Fiber Cushion, 500 count bag, $9.00 : This wad is used on top of the nitro card to cushion the shot charge. It can be split into any thickness as needed and can be lubed with any type of lube or be used dry, if desired. This wad works well as a case filler. Available in 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ,11 ,12 ,13 ,14, 15, 16, 17 , 18, 19, 20 24, 28, 32, 410 gauges and .310”, .320”, .360”, .380”, .412”, .430”, .450”, .455”, .460”, and .510”.

We consider 4X beaver felt from our old Stetsons to be the absolute best. Pop them out with a "period correct" chamfered .45 colt shell case for the 44 caliber variety. OYE
