I went to the gun store last Sunday to see their new goodies. They still didn't have the Remington 700 VS, but there was a savage fp10. I test handled it and dry fired it after asking the shop assistant. The trigger is so ......... sweet: light and crisp. It might be the best trigger I have ever saw on a rifle out of the box. Action is also nice, though I am not sure whether it could be compared to a Winchester or Remington action. The heavy target barrel is nice and the balance is good, and it is still not too heavy with this BBR.
The biggest cone, as most of you guys said, is the Stock!!! I was looking at the regular FP10 with 24' barrel. The stock configuration is OK for me, but the material is reall like a joke! It is too plastic . even inferior to some air rifle stock in my opinion. I handled a Rem 700 PSS before, and the stock on that rifle is much much better than the FP10 stock. I could even easily bend the forend to touch the free floating barrel, this concerned me a lot, it will definitely affect the POI and accuracy.
I found that savage provide FP10 also with Choate and McMillan stocks. Unfortuantelly the gun store didn't have them. Are they much better than the original stock? What are they made of? Which stock configuration do you guys prefer? I am not sure now since I didn't have a chance to handle them. But from the website they also look both weird to me (not a usual familiar style!)
I also heard that several company make aftermarket stocks for Savage FP10 rifles, could you guys give me some information and links? Thanks?
