Hey all, I have a Savage model 11, for the most part stock, I've removed some material on the stock where it was touching the barrel and added a harris bipod, now I've only been able to shoot it at about 25 yards so I don't know what type of accuracy it has, I do know that it'll put the hurting on a computer monitor in a real big way. That being said I want to restock the rifle, I'm looking at either going with a bell and carlson, or with a boyd's, does anyone have any experience with these two companies? eventually I want to replace the scope and rings too but money is insanely tight at the moment and will continue to be so until may or so, so that kind of limits my option, I'm leaning towards boyd's because of the price difference, that and i think a wood stock would look real nice.

question, I know with the bell and carlson they have a full aluminum bed, does the boyd's have any sort of bedding, and if not does it need it? I have no experience with wood stocks. any advise would be appreciated.

I think you will get more bang for the buck going with a Boyds or a Richards Micro Fit. I have not had personal expirence with them however my best friend has had a few stocks done by Richards and they look GREAT.

If I were getting a synthetic stock I would go HS Precision or McMillian or go home. My 2 cents.

thanks for the replies, I took a lok at SSS, but they're just a bit out of my price range, my upper limit is 200 and even that I won't be able to afford for a couple of months.

Midway had Savage OEM laminated wood stocks in stock. I bought one for my
30-06. Liked it better than the Boyd's because it came with the checkering whereas the Boyd's are smooth. Cost around $150. Was a drop in fit, I haven't done any bedding and it shoots under a minute as is.

+1 for the Savage factory laminate stock that is sold with the BVSS series. It is very nice stock. Laminate, channelled for heavy barrel, and flat forearm for bench shooting. You can get it from Midway, but you can get one second hand off the Savage Shooters board for about $120.

It is far better quality than the Bell & Carlson. Trust me on this. I've played with the factory el cheapo synthetic, the B&C Duramaxx, the McMillan A-5, and the BVSS stock on the Savage platform. I dumped the synthetic and Duramaxx. The only reason I got rid of the BVSS stock is because I parted out the rifle that I had it on.
