I have this idea of upgrading the OEM wood stocks to aftermarket laminate ones on the rest of my Rugers. Mini 30 is easy but even though I've searched far and wide, there seems to be nothing available for the Deerfield Carbine. It's the later, early 2000's model with a detachable rotary magazine.

I did some side-by-side comparison with 10/22 and from below the trigger guard / magwell inletting and screw locations seem very close if not mainly identical. Of course the action inletting itself is different because of gas piston assembly and assorted other parts. I don't have a 10/22 barrel band to compare the 44 item to, mine has a laminated Target stock, so I'm wondering if their lower (stock) loop diameters are the same.

Even better, has someone attempted to make a Deerfield stock out of a 10/22 one? I'm inclined to not trying to reinvent the wheel unnecessarily.

With as cheap as a factory take of is, you wouldnt be too badly out grabbing one of ebay to experiment with. Ive never owned a deerfield, tho its again, on my want list, Im GUESSING that they will not be easily interchangeable, but you might be able to make it work.

This is what I mean. While it might not be quite obvious from the pictures (sorry, I'm not much of a photographer), the dimensions are very close and even though I haven't had time to pull the actions from the stocks to compare, it seems that the differences in inletting are reasonable. The "right" way, too, so that it may well be possible to remove material from a 10/22-inletted stock without having to fill in anything to make Deerfield action fit. All dimensions align pretty well as-is and the barrel band shape seems to be the biggest question at this point.

I'm more or less looking for a confirmation for my suspicions but this wouldn't be the first time I've come across something no-one seems to have attempted before.

Unfortunately I don't have the OEM hardwood stock for the 10/22 anymore. There aren't many floating around, 10/22 is only moderately popular around here so I'll probably have to do some more research on the subject.

Ruger 44 Magnum Carbine with Mannlicher stock?
That's the earlier 1961-85 model 44 that preceded even the 10/22, with tubular magazine. Unfortunately it has little in common with the 2000-2006 99/44 Deerfield Carbine, other than the caliber.
