Is a magnificent 9MM handgun, why, with over 1500 rds fired, not a single malfunction of any kind. I have used every name brand of ammo through it, bulk, HP, RN, 115gr, 124gr & it preforms perfectly. Also no noticeable wear anywhere on it so far. Accurate, very mild recoil, excellent ergonomics, additional "factory" mags are less than 20 bucks, very easy to strip, clean & maintain. All for less than $400 brand new.

I have the Stoeger 8040F and I'm impressed. IMO they are built to last, and accurate.

A great under appreciated weapon. Mine has been perfection. Can't beat the price for a new all metal gun either.

I purchased this gun as my first handgun. I got it NIB for 369.00 plus the transfer fee. I thought it was the best 9mm for for the money. This gun gets little respect outside of those who actually own the gun. Stoegar doesnt carry the same weight as Beretta but its the same gun made on the same tool in a different location.

For the money this is a great entry level gun to jump in with.

I like those grips...I have thought about getting a pair off ebay but just havent done it.

I like the .45 cal with rail...that is a beautiful gun. The new two tone 9mm are nice as well.

I used to think I was Stoeger's long lost representetive . I love them . I got 2 of them in 2007 when they were $325 . BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK! Even better than the Sig P-6's .
Mine is an everyday carry gun when I am not working .

I got mine for $325 as my first handgun. I'll probably get flamed, but I ended up trading it in on a new M&P... Honestly, I love them both, but I do seem to shoot better with the M&P. I wish I had both of them.

Shytneed Dumas , you sold yours ? Damn you to hell!!!!!!
Seriously , they are very accurate and very dependable!

It's literally all the things that make the PX-4 pistols so great.

Just no polymer, and no tacticool.

I've never been an anti-tacticool person, but come on, how can you go wrong with that?

I bought a Stoeger Cougar 9mm in March then promptly sold my SR9 which I also liked. I like the Cougar just as much as my Beretta 92FS Inox. Great pistol!

my uncle who shoots with me often, owns a 92FS and he loved my cougar. He was impressed with the lack of recoil for a gun at 7" length.

When I got my 2 Cougars they had plastic guide rods in them . I noticed that the newer ones have the stianless steel ones . Anyone know why and what difference it would make ?

I like and respect the Cougar.... I just don't like the safety on the top of the slide. Racking the slide and tap/rack drills freak me out that im gonna put it on safety.

Good gun otherwise though, especially for the range... I just can't get around the stuff on top.

Here's mine, in Inox, with Hogue grips. So far 100 percent reliable. Suitably accurate and very easy to shoot fairly accurately pretty quickly (the pistol seems to drop right back on target for follow up shots).

I will say that I don't care for the Inox finish on the sights. One of these days I will replace them with some take offs from a Beretta 8000.
