Last month I set about to clean my SM Ace, which cokes up its floating chamber and barrel chamber with use.
So I dropped the barrel and floating chamber in my tall olive jar full of "benchrest blend" 50:50 Shooters Choice and Kroil with the intention of leaving them to soak for three days which is enough to soften about any fouling.

But then the doctor's office called and told me that the time for my back surgery was right away.
So by the time I felt like messing with it today, I had been convalescing for nearly 5 weeks and the parts had been soaking all that time.

When I fished them out of the jar, they were BLACK. Previous areas in the white were blackened, a patch wiped off the solvent and fouling but the color was fixed. I noticed the solvent in the jar was black, too. It had been used before and was colored pretty dark; now it is black.

I'll see if it affects the shooting tomorrow.

Best guess is that the ammonia compounds in the Shooter's Choice attacked the finish where the metal was not finished.

Hard to know if significant dimensional changes occurred until you fire for function. Hope that the only effect is no more than some minor discoloration. Sorry to hear of the difficulty.
