Shawnee, you're right there is not that much difference between the weight of the wood and synthetic. Since I have a much lighter scope on the wood stocked rifle it is really hard for me to say how it affects balance. If possible try to handle one. I've had the 30-06 for four years now and only picked up the wood stocked .308 about a month ago so I have only had it to the range so far. The wood stock is not as slippery and at least mine has a pretty decent piece of wood. I've seen a few of the wood stocks that did not look that good. They also offer a gray laminated stock with the stainless metal. If you have not done so check out the guns at www.berettausa.com
I do not know the exact model number for my Limbsaver recoil pad. I just looked through the rack at a sporting goods store until I found a package that said it would fit a Tikka with synthetic stock. Just unscrew 2 screws and replace the pad. The Limbsaver pad will increase the LOP slightly. About 1/4" I would say. It did not bother me but if you need a shorter LOP it could be a problem
