Anyone handle or shoot the new T3 rifles yet?

Looks like they're available in 6.5x55 which I've been looking for in a Tikka. I could special order one but none of the local shops have the T3 in yet. Similarities to the 595/695? Anything worse? I know the single action size turns some folks off but the 6.5x55 would need the longer action to use with longer bullets anyway.

Thanks for you help.

the new tikkas are a lot lighter and they are more slender in the grip and fore arm. the mag is a bit different that it releases from the front and not the side. in all mine seams to be a good quality rifle that wont break the bank.

One thing that bugs me about them is that I understand they only have one action length (long), so if you get one chambered in a shorter cartridge (.308, etc.) your action will be as long as if it were a 300 magnum. One thing I like about shorter cartridges is getting a shorter rifle with the same barrel length. With the popularity of the new short magnum cartridges, this seems like a poor design decision. Please correct me if I'm misinformed or misunderstanding something here (I like Tikka rifles).

I just bought a stainless/syn lite T3 today in .243---it is very light weight-----the manual lists it at 6lbs 3oz.-----I put it side by side to the .30-06 they had also---exactly the same length and weight---my .243 is going to be a sweet shooter-----that .30-06 is going to pound the heck out of you.

Cycled some shells through it to see if there would be any hang-ups because of the short action cartridge in a long action----there were no problems feeding --chambering and ejecting-----now to go shoot it.

It also came with scope mounts--sling swivels--and an allen wrench for the scope mounts.

I paid $499 for mine---the blued/syn model was $449----which is probably high--because they price the new and interesting stuff up there---then gradually bring the price down to what the market will bear. I figured $500 for a stainless rifle was OK--because look at what the Ruger--Browning--Remington--Winchester stainless models have gone up to---plus Tikka has an excellent reputation.

They told me they just put 'em out on the rack yesterday---and that I was basically the first one in the state to own one.

The rifle is also has a free-floated barrel and adjustable trigger---which is factory set at 3lbs----stated in the manual and verified by my guage.

Have you measured that group? Looks like it could be a hair under .5" Very impressive.

Yes, I was aware of the single length action issue but as I said, I'm primarily wanting to shoot pointy 140 Gr bullets so a long action is probably called for...

Thanks for all the replies... Looks like I'll be getting a 6.5x55 soon. ;)

I started a thread with the same sort of question before I found this one... I'm on the verge of buying one right now in '06, stainless/synthetic, and a nice VX-II. Im happy to find this thread, had an answer to every question I had. So even if this isnt my thread, thanks guys.
