I was at the range this afternoon when three guys started shooting in the lane next to me. I'm thinking they must have rented a gun and bought ammo for the first time based on the facts that they were hanging targets too low, not hitting anywhere near the bullseye and didn't know how to run the target track. The clincher came when I was picking up my brass and one of them asked me if I stuffed my own bullets. There you go...we are all stuffers!

Maybe you should have said, 'No, I make necklaces for a monthly shooting ceremony'.

On the other hand, a little mercy might give them some food for thought.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and just because they asked a question about something they didn't know much about, it doesn't make them stupid people, just inexperienced. We may know nothing of their job or other pursuits, and may ask a similar question about their field of expertise, but that doesn't make us stupid either, just inexperienced..........

Hope this helps.

Well then,,, Go stuff it!

Seriously, did they really use the words "stuff your own bullets"???

Worst I ever heard is make your own bullets even though they meant ammo. That is nowhere near as bad as what they said! lol

Tell them that range brass can kill you and they would gather it all up and you will take care of it for them.

And Fred once again has the most rational and appropriate response.
Why is our kind constantly shooting ourselves in the foot with this kind of off putting attitude?

I find when I'm friendly to these people...

and discuss that I reload so that I can get consistent loads that are fun to shoot, normally they'll bring over their brass for me :).

My wife asked me when I first started why I was buying "blanks" when she saw a bag of empty cases.

It was actually pretty funny because it was at the beginning when I was out of control buying stuff..she was griping at me for being to consumed with it.."you're even buying blanks now"???!!

Not making fun of them...just thought that was a funny response. In my simple mind, there is a difference. I did use it as a teaching experience and after the chat they looked over the over 100 .40 shells they were leaving on the floor to help find my few .45's that had gone their way. I let them sweep me several times without correction because the slide was locked back each time. I know some will say I was wrong in letting them get away with that and some will not. The inherent problem with forums is that you can't see the poster's eyes when he writes. The eyes always reflect what is in the heart.

I've had a few experiences like that although "stuffing" bullets is a new term. I was able to turn it into a brief lesson on how to handload and why I do it. If they have questions, and they usually do, I'll go into more detail. It's often a pleasant conversation.

But sweeping me or anyone will not go uncorrected. I don't care if the slide is locked back. It's also part of the posted range rules. I don't go down their throats about it, just make a polite no nonsense point. The one time that didn't work I had the imbecile thrown off the range.

I explained the reloading process to my girlfriend and she now says that I "put the stuffing back into bullets so we can shoot them again...."

It didn't sound to me like you were making fun of them. I wouldn't be surprised if all of the posts headed that way if Walkalong wouldnt have mentioned it though.

Somebody once asked me if I could "pack them up some rounds," thinking I could load cheaper than the steel cased ammo they were using in thier AK. If asked again, I think my response needs to be, "stuffing bullets is expensive!"

Lord...I hope that "term" doesn't stick..!!!

Every time I think of "stuffing" I think of Turkeys only..!!
And it's getting close to that time too...:uhoh:

"Stuffing" has been a term used in the black powder world for a long time, as in Front Stuffers as a casual nickname for muzzle loaders.

While I didn't get the impression the OP was making fun, it's always a good reminder to treat the possibly uninformed positively, and treat it as a teaching/ learning experience. As Red Green used to say' we're all in this together

So, I suppose when my wife tells me to "Stuff It".....she means that I should go to my loading bench and work a while.

I can do that.
