Stupid question of the week: SKS strippers to load AK mags?

I had one at one point - I think Chinese - and it just didn't work smoothly. Didn't matter what kind of stripper clips I used in it. IMO, don't waste your money.

SKSs can be tough to find online. It looks like Atlantic Firearms has some right now, but their price is a little high for the condition you're getting. Aim Surplus gets a batch every so often. They grade and sell by condition, and the prices they ask for seem pretty fair.

Honestly, I'd just hit up your local classifieds and gun shows and see what you can find there.

Works fine for me, too. It takes practice. They are not as smooth as AR stripper clips.

Me too, but unless your ammo comes on stripper clips when you buy it, I don't see the point of loading the clips to then load AK mags.

I had a couple of cases of Chinese surplus ammo that came on stripper clips, the tool came in handy compared to removing the rounds from the clips to then stuff into AK mags, but I used most of this ammo in my SKS.

For the SKS its worth putting loose ammo into stripper clips as they generally work a lot better than any of the aftermarket detachable SKS magazines.

I agree, if your ammo isnt already on the strippers, you might as well just get a Mag LuLa and load them that way.

If youre carrying strippers in pouches, then the mag loader is a handy way to recharge the mags, which is its real purpose anyway.

My biggest complaint about the SKS/AK strippers is, they dont retain the rounds very well, and in the case of the SKS, you rarely get the full 10 in the gun, as you either left rounds in the pouch, or lost them on the ground on the way to the gun, or both. Same goes for loading the AK mags, if youre in a hurry.

Ive used a number of different types, and they all seem to loosen up with use.

My thinking also. As inexpensive and durable as AK milsurp mags are, I'd rather have a box full of Hungarian 20-rounders (or 30's, if you prefer) to hold the ammo, than have a box full of loaded stripper clips and just a few magazines. More convenient at the range and less work overall.

AK mags aren't as inexpensive as they used to be...

The best SKS strippers I've used were European of some make (Yugo maybe) and parkerized. I admit I didn't use them enough to wear them out though. The blued Chinese ones that turn up don't hold rounds especially well.

When you own both an AK and an SKS, it is awful handy storing your ammo in this manner.....and it is still faster than hand-loading the mags.

The Yugo stripper clips are the best.
