I have seen lots of these on the market as of late, in fact J&G has em for under $100. After a quick search on the google the biggest problem i see is the ammo. what are some thoughts on this rifle?

They're pretty good rifles, other than ammo costs. The other problem is that the straight pull can sometimes be tough to operate and the recoil of that cartridge through that little carbine will be intense. If you can find some ammo somewhere for decent money then I'd get it. You might still want to get one just to have it.

Plus, it's Steyr...not Styer (not sure if it's a typo, thought I'd clarify anyway).

Battle sight requires a two foot hold-low, wrist swivel makes them lefty-unfriendly, straight-pull action can be stiff, ammo is expensive, and recoil is stout.

However, they're fast to operate, cheap, 8x56R packs a wallop, and very well built.

The amunition isn't that expensive, at least that which I have seen. They have it in 300 round tins for around $70. The bullets are usually 200 grain and yes they do kick. If I had more time before elections and wasn't concentrating on getting enough surplus of calibers that I already have, I would sure grab one and a couple thousand rounds of ammunition. The Steyr straight pull isn't a smooth as a Swiss straight pull, even my 1896/11, but it will get the job done, and it is still faster than a bolt action., except for maby the clips. Realistically, a Steyr M-95 could probably be a little bit better HD/SHTF fan rifle as opposed to a Moison Nagant. I men, even M-44's are $119 now. It's available, it's cheap, it's unique, what more could you want? Put a recoil pad on the back, and blast away.

I bought one this summer. Pretty cool carbine, and a good shooter.

Kicks like a field mule! I lubed mine up with Break Free, and worked the bolt about 100 times to limber it up. Works pretty fast and slick now. Need the Mannlicher clips to be a repeater

Graf and Sons has Hornady softpoint ammunition. Can found surplus ammo on clips too.

I had one of those things some time ago. Pretty cool little rifle. It had earned the nickname "lil' Abrupt" cause when you yanked the trigger it ........... well you know the rest.
