Oh, I shoot a bit of 16g as well through grandad's old 1148 that Dad keeps.
Today I shot a lot of rifle (.45-70, .35 Whelen, .375 H&H, and .22 LR), but some fun I had was with the .38Spl adaptor. It did quite well, putting 4 shots of two different weights (158g and 148g) and bullet types (roundnose and hollow-based wadcutter) at diffent velocities (~700 fps and ~600 fps) into a playing card-sized group at about 7 yards.
The light wadcutter loads were almost recoil free out of my 1100, and quiet enough to shoot without ear protection. The heavier-loaded roundnose rounds were still virtually without recoil, but were too loud to be comfortable without ear protection. Think .22 shorts out of a pistol.
I think this is the way to go.
