Subcompact's with full size magazine comparability

Greetings High Road,

I'm new here and I'm about to purchase my first concealed carry gun after I get my license.

If you guys could give me your opinion on the stated topic I would appreciate it.

I'm aware of Glock's and M&P's that have the option of using full size magazines in their subcompacts, but I don't know of any other line that offers that.

Just remember that these are "full width" guns and what you gain in convenience of using full size magazines, you may lose in conceal-ability or comfort. Even 1/4" could be the difference between printing and not or a sore side or not. Of course everyone's situation is different.

H&K only makes one subcompact, the P2000SK, but it will accept magazines intended for the P2000/USP Compact or the P30/VP9. Standard capacity in the P2000SK is 9 rounds .40, 10 rounds 9mm; the P2000/USPc magazines hold 12 rounds .40, 13 rounds 9mm; the P30/VP9 magazines hold 13 rounds .40, 15 rounds 9mm.

the P2000sk accepts the USP compact and P2000 but not the VP9 or P30. Can't get the VP9 or P30 anyway, (out of stock, delivery date keeps getting moved back) so doesn't make much difference.
A nice feature for the USP compact mag is they make a small piece that fills the gap left by the mag extending past the frame, so that you have a full, even grip.

That's the beauty of HK's line. No matter if I'm carrying my P30S, VP9, USPc or P2000 I carry the same spare mag on my belt- a 15 round P30 mag. It will work in any of them and the P2000sk, too. It just sticks out a little further on the compact and sub kompact guns. The gap isn't going to bother me if I end up needing the spare!

I can't say much about the mags for other brands. I do own more brands than just HK but none of them are guns with different models within the same line.

Glock 26, Glock 27 in my experience. Ruger's SR9c handles the SD9's magazines quite well. SA's XDM 3.8 45ACP will take full size magazines. There are others I'm sure, but these I have hands-on experience with.

Ruger and SA supply sleeves for the long magazines to better fit the shorter guns; Glock doesn't but they are out there as third party accessories.

Not exactly where it falls in your question, but Glock's 33 round 9mm magazines works just fine in the G26, G19 and G17. I understand a similar magazine is available for the G27, G23 and G22 family. No experience there though.

My wife has a Beretta PX4 subcompact. Here are the pros and cons:

+ Absorbs a lot of recoil for a small gun due to weight and tilting barrel design.
+ Full-size mags fit perfectly with grip extension.
+ Reliable, easy to maintain and sturdy
+ Single / double action with a safety
+ Fits big and small hands with adjustable backstrap

- Really fat for a subcompact
- Heavy
- Slide can bite when racking it, if you're not careful and have big, fat, stupid hands (like me). I was bleeding all over the gun counter. Felt like a complete ass.

The Walther 99 mags work in the PPQ Classic and the PPQ M1, not the PPQ M2.

There are 10, 15, 17, and 20 round factory 99/PPQ mags.
