Hi all I am loading .357 magnum with 2400 powder and it calls for magnum primers of which I have none. However I do have Remington 6 1/2 small rifle primers that I initially bought for .223 and later learned they weren't designed for .223. What are your opinions on using them in the .357 in place of small pistol primers? Thanks for your comments. Mac

2400 powder only requires a Std primer
Well my load books say otherwise, but a friend who reloads told me no just a standard one. Well here are the facts loading .357 with 11.5 gr. 2400 Federal small pistol primer 6 shots lo=728fps hi=988fps standard deviation 260fps, lots of powder in barrel. Load up 6 more with 11.5 gr. 2400 using Remington 61/2 small rifle primers lo=1017fps hi=1073fps standard deviation 56fps. Nice recoil a little flame, looked and felt more like a .357 magnum. Now I get to use those 61/2 primers I bought at $19.96 per 1K. LOL

I have transitioned to SRP for most everything. I own a couple striker fired pistols that were unreliable with the SRP so SPP for them. I saved my 6 1/2's for my 22 Hornet because of single digit SD numbers.

Where did anyone find Remington 61/2 primers? I don't see them on any of the component sites I have visited lately. All I am seeing is "sold out" and "discontinued".

Look at the pressures the primers were designed to operate UNDER.

Contact vista outdoors - they own the Remington reloading info now.
