Suggest a Gunsmith Please

I have a S&W 28-2 Highway Patrolman. I bought it used, knowing it has a (slightly) damaged barrel. I sent it to S&W in the hopes they could fit a replacement barrel, but they informed me that they can not, and have no alternative barrel choices for me.

So I am posting here for gunsmith suggestions. Since I cannot (apparently) get the same revolver I bought, I would like to turn it into a target revolver. Basically an 8" 6 shot 357. I'm not planning on putting a scope on it, but if some one can convince me otherwize, I would reconsider.

So, any recommendations?
 
Or, you could trade it for a perfectly fine, working Highway Patrolman or other S&W.

Then lick your wounds, and come out several hundred dollars ahead of a conversion gun with less resale / trade value then it has now.

Good idea MrBorland...........Clark could put one of their barrels on it and boy you would have a shooter deluxe. If they can't help you they will tell you up front. If they can, you will have a shooter unsurpassed.
Also when Clark gets through with it you won't feel like you've been taken advantage of when you get the bill.
 
I just checked with Numrich arms.
They stock M-28 barrels. Cost about $175.
Other option is to have it rebarreled and change the cylinder for a differant cartridge.
Whats wrong with the current barrel?
 
As earplug mentioned, you can, with effort, find a barrel, and someone to replace it for you. It requires some effort and talent to do that, though - it is not "drop in" or screw-in by any stretch. You need a gunsmith with proper barrel fitting tools and experience.

Finding a gunsmith near you can save you some annoying shipping fees, so whereabouts are you in case someone can help.

Lastly, if you decide to buy a new gun, email or pm me, because I actually have been looking for a 28 with a bad barrel to get as a base gun for a custom project. I have had in mind for a year or two - just haven't found the "donor" gun yet - I would pay parts value for it so you can recover some of your money (or all of it depending what you paid!).
 
I hadn't thought about Numrich, thanks earplug! The Barrl has a chunk of the rifling missng near the forcing cone.

Oro, I bought the revolver thinking that I might use the frame for a custom 357 mag target/hunting gun.
