First thing - I am not asking for suggestions for another gun - or comments that I should have bought another gun - or any trash like that - please, limit your responses to the topic at hand!

I was given by my girlfriend a Taurus PT-1911 for Christmas. I have put approximately 1500 rounds through it so far, with ZERO problems. Shoots like a champ!

The only issue is the finish.. It's horrible.

I paid nothing for the gun, so I have no problems paying someone $100 to $250 to get it refinished.

I am wanting a two-tone refinish, with the slide, slide release, mag release, hammer, and ambi-safety being black.. The frame to be either gray or brushed stainless in appearance.

I have thought about brushed hard-chrome, black hard-chrome, nickel, even gun kote, but I am not doing blue... I have also considered Melonite for the the entire gun, but if I understand correctly, doesn't the gun have to be stainless for Melonite?

Can anyone suggest companies that you have dealt with in the past that would have reasonable prices and quality work? Preferrably one with a website, and possibly some photos of their work?

Also, suggestions for the best, longest lasting finish for a pistol that would be used as both carry and range gun would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

And as for the finish, your finisher will probably recommend something he's particular to. For a discussion of finishes for pistols, there's a thread running this week with an identical theme here.

Ironically, I emailed him just yesterday! He is so backlogged on work that he isn't taking on any new jobs for 2 months :-(

His prices were excellent though! Best I've seen for Gun Kote!

Hard Chome will give you the absolutely best wear durabilty available but it is shiny. This is fine for a range pistol but may count as a negative for a carry pistol. The flip side is that, most of the time, a non leo carry pistol is not used to sneak around in the bushes looking for the Bad Guy. If, as a private person you do have to draw it to defend your self or someone else, a big shiny pistol may not be a bad thing. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

I know Gander will do parkerizing, bluing and other coatings. I need one parkerized and am considering them and a local finisher if I can find their contact info.

I would not understand disrespecting that pistol. It has some really nice features. :)
In fact those features will probably cost me enough to add it would be better to keep it stock and get the Taurus.
