Suggestion for deceased THR members

As with every large community we lose members and I have a suggestion to honor them.
Next time you are at the range take the first or last shot in their memory, that way we can send off our fallen with a 10,000+ gun salute.
Feel free to squeeze on off for our vets too!

I hope this does not sound morbid, but I recently took part in a rememberance service for a friend who was a shooter.

After a training seminar that he had sworn he was going to get to ( thanks to a friend he was there not only in spirit but in a container of powder. After the seminar we formed a line spoke a few words and scattered his ashes on the property of the shooting club he loved. We then fired off a 50 gun salute using .45 ammo that was loaded with gunpowder and with a small amount of my friend.

It was very moving. I told my family that when my time came I would like something like that.

Central .... I agree and in fact have a good many times ..... ''paid my respects'' whilst at a range session.

I did this with Labgrade, Kentucky Rifle --- and will add same soon for Capt_Happypants who sadly at age 33 has just passed on.

I'd like to think that after I am gone - someone can remember me whilst shooting off a volley ... it makes for a grand salute.

I don't think it's morbid at all. Remembering a friend in the way they'd like to be remembered is very respectful, even if it's not a typical remembrance.

sounds like you are making a suggestion to Labgrade/kentuckyrifle/capt_happypants rather than a suggestion to THR members regarding them. I would suggest that if we were to be asking any favors of them, it would be to hold us a place on the firing line in happy hunting ground, and maybe to reload us up a couple hundred rounds of our favorite ammo.

p.s. Any friends/family of the above named, count on me to bang off a few in rememberance. I haven't met any of them, but by all accounts they were quality guys. I am sad for your loss, and happy for the great times you had with them.

I must admit that I had the same thought as Stand_Watie when I first saw the thread title. Therefore, I trust it meets with your approval if I do change the title just a little to reflect your intention.

I think it is a nice way to pay tribute. I was very touched last year when I went to my brother's grave- (he was 38 and passed in 2000- and was a shooting enthusiast), and found that someone had pressed empty .45 cartridges in the ground on his gravesite in the shape of a cross.

If I die, I don't plan on sticking around for my funeral.
When I come across one (or more) of y'all on the "Other Side," I can imagine this conversation popping up...

"So, Heaven's great, huh?"

"Yeah, but there seems to be a shortage of chairs."

"Ya hear what we did at your funeral?"

"Nope, what?"

"We loaded your ashes into a few different calibers from .25 all the way up to .600 NE, and spent a day at the range with them. The rest we scattered over rural Ireland."
