I’m looking at vortex strike Eagle 1-8x. $399. Reticle has holding points out to 600. Anyone with a better suggestion

I wouldn’t pair that scope with a 6.5 Creedmoor. Honestly I wouldn’t choose that chambering for home defense either. For a general purpose hunting/informal target shooting this would suit you better https://cameralandny.com/shop/brand...1480-0137-3875-00163ecd2826?variation=1911500 and offer better glass. It’s illuminated (center dot), offers 5 turrets matched to a number of calibers, and offers more magnification for long range shooting, all at a better price than the Vortex.

The Sig I listed earlier in the thread that’s on its way is destined for my daughter’s Ruger in 6.5 and the current Leupold will end up on my .243 if I don’t decide to box it up for future use.

I wish I could find a 2-12+x scope with good glass in that price range. That seems like it would be a good fit.

Ended up going with the primary arms SLX 4-14x with MILDOT reticle (not a fan of the fancy reticles). Coupled that with an aero precision Ultralight mount and an angled foregrip and the bill was just over $300 after tax and a LEO discount. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

The VX-Freedom scopes are not a bad choice for the money. For all around use a 1-4X is hard to beat. On 1X I can get on target faster than with irons or dot sights. On 4X I have enough magnification to hit human or deer size targets out to 300-400 yards. I have some older Leupold 1-4X's. The newer versions are labeled as 1.5-4X. Close enough.

No scopes made are EXACTLY the magnifications they are labeled anyway. Manufacturers round off to something close. One manufacturers 3-9X might actually be 3.2-9.4X while another may actually be 2.7-8.9X. And even the same scopes actual magnification will vary some depending on how it is focused. It might be 3-9X when focused for you, but when focused for eyes be slightly different.

If you want to varmint hunt, or shoot farther then more magnification might be a good idea. There are some 1-6X and 1-8X scopes on 30mm tubes out there, but a good one may be over budget.

That’s solid glass for the money and I think you’ll be happier in the long run with the extra magnification for your rifle. Stop back and give us a range report if you get the chance and welcome to THR.

Has anyone looked through a Swampfox Arrowhead? They make a 1-10x. It gets good reviews. Young company.

I would strongly suggest looking at the Vortex brand. The low to mid range variable scopes in 1-4 and 1-6 will fall nicely in your price range, and are the best of both worlds for the AR- low 1X power and red dot for rapid close range use and magnification and bullet drop for the distances well in the effective range of the AR. The Vortex price matches well with the quality of the product and an unconditional lifetime warranty.

Primary Arms 4-14x44mm FFP Riflescope. ACSS Reticle.
About $250. Cool Reticle. I have it on my AR10 .308. Strong as bull. Clear. Priced right.

I’ll let you know what I think when I get it. I’ll try and post some pics. I watched a video of a guy showing the scope compared to other LPVOs, and the only one that surpassed the Arrowhead’s brightness and clarity was the Vortex Razor 1-10x, but it’s 5x the price. Also, Mike, an executive at Primary Arms is now with Swampfox. He is designing all of these scopes based on what he couldn’t get done there. Apparently Swampfox actually owns their factory in China, so they have very good quality control, and design control. I guess I’ll find out....
