the dsais the logical way to go. I've had Imbels, IMIs, but there cost seems now almost beyond reach.

were these entirely imbel {of brazil} built weapons imported by springfield armory SAR 48 or 4800 models, or kit rifles built on imbel recievers?
One was a "new" rifle from Centery arms read as used parts kit on new receiver this was the one that had the tight chamber

the other was built from a parts kit by a local gun shop took it back many times and never got it right. The barrel was well with in spacs I suspect the muzzle break was the problem.

kind of what i suspected, the FN licensed imbel made good quality weapons. i had better accuracy from their full sized FAL, than FN's.

Imbels were always forged, whereas FN went to cast in the 1970's.

I would wager Steyr made the absolute best FAL's on the planet. DSA's are almost certainly equal in quality to FN's products, perhaps even better. Imbels were basic but probably equal to FN's, too, better perhaps because of the forged receivers. Who knows?

Some people like Type I or II receivers over the Type III's. However, the Type III receivers, while being heavier and less refined in appearance, are likely actually sturdier than the other types.

i suspect that the imbels grouped good due to the hammer forged rifling. also retained accuracy well due to chromed bore.

no hard facts, just my guess.

i have heard good things about the steyrs, but complete OEM units kinda scarce this side of the pond. so there again, just speculation.

Ash- since steyr pioneered hammer forged bbls, do you know if they had this option when steyr was still producing FALs?

Probably the absolute best reason to have a DSA SA-58 (not the STG) is because it is 100% USA made (or mostly US, considering the magazines) and so Sec 922r is of no concern what-so-ever.

IIRC the SA58 has two Steyr parts. I think it is the gas block and bolt. That may have changed or maybe I just am remembering incorrectly.
