Took the grown children out to lunch Sunday. A guy came up with a dessert for our SIL because he was wearing a tee shirt with a quote from Vermont State Constitution. That is the one that guarantees RKBA.
I thanked him as we left

^"SIL because he was wearing a tee shirt "

Did you mean,

SIL because she was wearing a tee shirt

?

Threw me for a while. I thought the guy who brought dessert was wearing the tee shirt with the quote.

What was the quote, by the way?

Will this fit on a tee shirt?! :D

Vermont Constitution Chapter 1, Article 16

That the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State - and as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power.

Well, that's why the U.S. Second Amendment is so short and incisive. Hey, the founders knew what would fit on a tee shirt, right?

This lesson in brevity and precision for the sake of fitting it on tee shirts was forgotten about a hundred years later, when Colorado was admitted to the Union, so it got a little bloated like this:

The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons.

See, at the time, only "bad guys" carried concealed. Or so I am told.

Nowadays only "good guys" can carry concealed. Or so I am told.
