I have been trying out Trailboss in several of my firearms. Yesterday I tried it in a 32-20 rifle.

I used 2.8 grains of the powder to launch a Hornady 90 grain SWC. This load, according to the data, produces a bit over 800 feet per second from a 5.5 inch barrel. With the rifle's 22 inch barrel , it might be at 900. Yes, I know the only way to verify velocity is with a chronograph. There was no supersonic crack.

In all my other guns, the sights or scope were way off for the TB loads. With my 32-20, at fifty yards, the first two shots were only about three inches low, perfect for windage. I clicked the scope up and fired three more shots.

These three shots measured a hair over three-quarters on inch, dead center.

The first trigger pull of these shots I had forgotten to pull my ear muffs over my ears. The shot was so quite, I didn't really notice at first. It sounded like the rifle usually does with muffs on. Then the next two shots were fired with ear protection in place. Now it sounded like an air rifle. I good even here the bullets contact the target.

A 90 grain slug at 900 feet per second is like a super pellet gun. A pellet gun on steroids if you will.

Trail Boss is a fantastic powder; I have had great luck with it in .38 special. I don't have an appropriate rifle to try it in, but it sounds like great fun!

I do, what are the loads you like in 38?

4.1-4.2 Trail Boss with 158gr Missouri Lead Bullet (BHN 12) any shape; I've tried several and they are all good. The Speer swaged lead are great too. I've tried Trail Boss with 125s but it wasn't quite as good. Clean still, but different POI.

The 158 lead over 4.2 Trail Boss is the load for my GP100. My best group was 6 shots into 3" at 50 yards (from a rest.) :)

It is super clean burning, accurate, and literally impossible to double charge a case.

Finally got around to giving trailboss a try. 4.2g with a 158g SWC gave 970 fps out of an 18.5" barrel. Not close to "pellet gun" report though.

I guess I'll stick with my suppressed 9mm AR, berrys 147's @ 940 fps with 3.1 of VV N310 with 1.160" oal.

Trail Boss in small calibers like .32-20 with plated or jacketed bullets really needs to fill the case to the base of the bullet, or at least real close.

3.6 Grs of TB under a 35 Gr V Max in .22 Hornet gives around 750 FPS with the powder against the primer, but over 1600 FPS when the powder is against the base of the bullet in my Ruger 77/22. It is accurate if you keep the powder oriented the same way each time.

I have played with TB in .32-20 in a 6" revolver and it is erratic unless the case is full.

TB loves lead, but can be a little picky/erratic with plated or jacketed bullets.
