I just bought a NIB Super Redhawk in 454 casull. Yet as brought it home, after inspecting i noticed a little endshake. I shot it yesterday and it performed great with both LC and fullhouse 454s. I remember someone else here mentioning a little endshake in theirs as well a couple of weeks back.

Is this something I should worry about?

Is this frame strong enough to not be affected by this?

How should i contact Ruger if this is a problem and how do they normally handle things like this? Do they have good customer service?

I already love this gun and want it to last as long as possible.

Thanks for your replies fellas.

Ruger has pretty good customer service - I'd find a shop where you can look at another one and verify that something is wrong with yours before engaging Ruger. They're good at fixing really obvious things (cylinder won't turn, trigger doesn't work) - a problem like yours might take a couple of trips back and forth before it's fixed.

Have you tried looking/asking over on the Ruger forum? http://www.rugerforum.com/

How much shake are we talking about here?

Mine is a .44, but it locks up tighter than a bank's vault, and it's the only thing I can even come close to hitting a target with. No shake, no looseness, no problems.

TexasRed, welcome to THR and congrats on purchasing a fine revolver:) . I had similar questions to yours when I got mine about a year ago. I bought it slightly used(funny how a lot of these big bores are not shot much:D ) at a gunshow. It looked and operated perfectly except for it having a good bit of endshake and it won't lock up entirely tight. I measured mine and it was moving from .003-.007 thousandths endshake. I called Ruger and the lady said .002-.006 was normal. I took it to a reputable gunsmith who said it should be fine and it it increases he'd look into shimming it or I could send it back to Ruger. The lady I spoke with was very friendly and said they would be happy to take a look at it but I decided to wait since I wanted to shoot it. I've put around 350 454's downrange and maybe 150 total 45 colts. The endshake is still there but hasn't worsened. This gun will take a pounding and seems to be very accurate except for the shooter:p . I have started reloading and it saves a bunch but on my hot loads: 300grXTP's, 32.2gr H110 I've noticed that sometimes the cylinder wants to unlock, haven't had any problems with shaving or anything. I may eventually send it to Ruger to let them tighten it up a bit but overall I've been happy with it and especially for the price I got it for! Hope you have a great relationship with your Red girl!
