Last weekend I took 2 new rifles in 22 250 out to bust some Tannerite and to test the accuracy of the Hornady round. I took my chrony and some 50 gr. Superformance varmint and some Prvi Partizan 55 grain. My rifles are Savage axis 22 inch hunting rig and a Cabelas special FV12 26 inch barrel.
I believe the chrony is pretty close on readings as I use Nikon scopes and the Nikon Spot On App
and have found it reliable across many platforms and many calibers.
The Privi 55gr. Averaged 3501 fps. Out of the 22 inch axis, and 3633 out of the 26 inch rig.
Both less than the published spec of 3680.
The 50 gr. Superformance clocked at 4179 fps out of the 22 inch and 4343 out of the 26 inch rig
Basically the SFV is an inch high at 100 and zero is 300. This proved out and we were popping the Tannerite at 350 yards that it was almost too easy. Question is: Will that velocity burn out my barrels or should I believe Hornady that says that it will not shorten my barrel life? Did I get an unsafe lot of ammo? Oh 4343 is really fun. Could see my bullet hit the target before I lost the sight picture @ 300 yards. Wow.
Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks
