UPDATE! NEXT MEETING JUNE 24TH IN ROCKFORD--SEE POST #32 FOR DETAILS!

As you probably all know, IL and WI are the only two states that flatly prohibit concealed carry.

There is a movement afoot to bring carry to Illinois, and it is spreading like wildfire out of one norther county (Winnebago, which includes the city of Rockford).

Please, if you will, post comments in support of IL CCW to Fred Wescott at the following URL:

I am not an Illini, but my niece and her husband live in Westmont.
They would have left long ago if not for a prosperous business.
I told them about your endeavors and they have already sent off a supporting email to Mr.Wescott.
I feel your and their pain when visiting them.
Someday ,Illinois and Wisconsin wiil have concealed carry.Best of luck and thank you for your work.

Mr. Wescott specifically asked for support from across and outside the state, so don't think your input isn't welcome just because you're not from Winnebago or Illinois!

Will send one from here as well, saying lack of reciprocity isn't kosher and I only visit places I can carry. Either they start honoring out of state CCW's or they'll do without my money and anyone I know.

We don't go to Illinois because it doesn't allow us the means to defend our lives if we do.

Illinois doesn't trust us. We don't trust Illinois. Life is simple.

Put your $ and effort where your...fingers are?

P.S. Robert, it's not that we (Illinois) don't trust you, it's that the inmates are running the asylum. Help us take back our rights. to quote a taglone seen here, "send lawyers, guns and money" on second thought, we've got too many lawyers, and enough guns, just come and bring money! Or send the money, either way.:D

I grew up near Chicago. This is one of the reasons that I avoid the place like the plague.

Posted!

This is great to see! If everyone pulls together, then something will come of it. The state government has to listen to the will of the people.

You guys are doing me proud!

Mr. Wescott said he's looking to have 100 comments for the meeting next Tuesday in Rockford (the public is invited, please come out if you can, I'm driving four hours to be there) and he was close to that yesterday or the day before. I expect he'll only gain momentum over the next four days.

A couple of notes:
1. May-issue is infinitely better than the current system. For one thing, may-issue would leave most of the state with some kind of CCW within a few years, as I believe most IL sheriffs would either issue CCW or get replaced. It would leave Cook and the collar counties behind, however, and that stinks. May-issue is not the goal, but Illinois needs some kind of leverage against our Governor and legislature. We don't have open carry, so we can't do what Ohio did, for instance.

2. This county ordinance is could well be invalidated by state law and end up issuing zero permits in Winnebago County, but that's not really the point. The point is to show the state government that this is not an issue they can afford to ignore. We need numbers in Winnebago's meetings because, if they pass the resolution, they become our model for the next county and the next after that.
This year, 82 out of 102 counties in Illinois passed the "2nd Amendment Resolution." That was a simple statement that the county board opposes any further gun control in Illinois.
But imagine 5,000 gun owners in the state capitol next spring (we got at least 2,500 this year, so it's not that farfetched) waving maps like this one under their legislators' noses--except that this time, the map shows 80% of Illinois counties having passed CCW resolutions. Even if the resolutions go down to eventual defeat in the courts, that's hard to ignore.

Done as well. As being one who has to travel through Illinois to visit St. Louis (thank God my end destination is not Illinois), it'd make me feel better knowing the people there can carry; and perhaps maybe in time, maybe I can too if we get reciprocity.

Don Gwinn, that is a impressive map.
I have the feeling that Illinois is on the cusp of positive changes gun wise.Chicago and environs can be overcome.
I sent my Westmont relatives your comments. They also feel very positive.
Thank you for all your efforts.

Don Gwinn

Unfortunately, Smithiac had to work and couldn't make it, but my son went with me and we had a ball. Unfortunately, I think we set the distance record, and we ended up rolling home a little after 4:00 this morning.

I didn't meet anyone from THR, unfortunately, but it was a good time. The crowd was large and well-behaved; I have video of most of the speakers, but I don't know that I got very good audio, unfortunately. There had to be at least 30 speakers in favor of CCW and only two who spoke against it, with each of the speakers in opposition acknowledging most of the reasoning behind CCW but simply expressing fear at the idea of "guns on the street." The sheriff of Winnebago County spoke at length, explaining that he is not opposed to concealed carry and will let the courts sort out the legality of the ordinance . . . . and according to members of the county board, two members who had been opposed have now switched to our side. It looks like the CCW ordinance should pass easily, and then comes the longer and harder part of dealing with the state in court.

No matter what happens, thanks to everyone who left comments for Fred Wescott to show to the board! Good job, everyone.

Thanks for your help! And in conclusion, I'd just like to say, unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately.

Not too far off topic I hope, but - I noticed that my hometown newspaper (Olney Daily Mail) has been running a poll as to whether or not Blogwhateverhisname is should be impeached. Is this a local phenomenon, does it have anything to do with CCW or any of the other 2A issues in Illinois, or is just general dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs?

It's a reaction to the corruption in his administration and the fact he's pretty much abandoned the office of Governor - you may want to read up on it in the Chicago Trib, there's a lot of coverage right now.
