Suppressor (Silencer) on Mini 14?

Can a Mini 14 with original barrel be threaded to accept a suppressor? Do any of you fire your Mini with a screwed on can? does this work well? My dealer has told me that it is not good to thread thin barrels such as the one on Minis.
