As I am sure many know, that within the last year or so. Maybe longer. The ATF ruled suppressor wipes as being suppressor parts, and thus NOT legally user replaceable. To get a new one, one must go to an authorized service center or send the can back for a new one.

The way I understand it, is you can only have one Wipe in your possession as well.

however after seeing a dead air ghost and it’s wipe, I realized it matched almost identically including material type to a gasket/seal/washer on my custom 4x4 truck.

Unless you had both side by side, you wouldn’t be able to tell which one was which. Minor differences in size of hole in the middle, and thickness.

So really makes me wonder how the ATF would ever know what I am using or needing the extra “washers/gaskets/seals” and what I am using them for. My truck or the suppressor. They would be hard pressed to prove otherwise.

Well, one thing I can think of that might tip the authorities to investigate would be if a person were to draw attention to themselves by suggesting publicly (perhaps on the internet, for example) that they were considering breaking federal law. With that information in hand, a careful material comparison would almost certainly detect a difference, indicating that a prosecution was in order.

If the person were to go further, publicly stating that they were aware that the action was illegal, I can't imagine how the resulting prosecution could fail since intent and knowledge of the law would be established beyond any reasonable doubt by the offender's own words.

But yes, if a person wanted to break the law and if they were smart about it (sort of an oxymoron there, but you get my point) and kept quiet about it, you're right; it would be pretty hard to get caught.

Of course, on THR, we don't advocate criminal behavior, even if enforcement would be problematic or getting caught would be unlikely.

So...time for the lock.
