From what read/see, this was a slow-motion disaster from all aspects.

Notwithstanding the police officers could NOT let him enter that confined gas station KwikMart w/ that knife (at which point a gun-knife-fight in a closet surround by civilians was the logical disastrous outcome), how was he allowed to literally walk for 10-minutes to another venue w/o being physically blocked in by squad cars and stopped ?
But once he reached the 2nd Gas Station door -- it was options-gone/game-over.
[Naturally, the media and ACLU are going nuts.]
