Sw 629-6 44 magnum reload overpressure?

This crimp look OK? Too much? I'm not crushing the case or anything. Chambers great, no round is jumping the crimp.

Maybe a bit more than you need. That can be a bit hard on the case mouths over time.
As others stated in this post, you're within published data with your powder. I used to run 23.5 of 296(same powder as 110) with thar same bullet and got very good results. My preferred powder is Ramshot Enforcer with that caliber/bullet. It's a bit more flexible and forgiving than 110/296. If you ever come across some, grab a pound and give it a whirl. I'm sure you'll be another satisfied user

Welcome Bob!

If you can find some. and that is a big IF right now, Unique is an excellent powder to cut your teeth on when new to reloading. With a lead/lube, coated or plated 240 gr SWC you can create lower-powered .44 Special-ish loads using 8.0 gr for plinking, practice or starting a new shooter out on your .44, up to some pretty stout loads that max at 11gr. They won’t approach the speed and blast of your heavy H110 level loads, but they are still packing enough punch to go broadside clean through a deer. That is unless you like taking your guns (or cars) in for occasional repairs, as you don’t need to press your 629 (or your daily driver) to the red line all day long.

Other powders that are more flexible than h110 in a .44 include Universal, AA#5, Blue Dot, H4227, etc.

Again, welcome and enjoy your new hobby. It takes some time to learn a few of the tricks, but if you take your time and pay attention to detail you will be creating stacks of great shooting, safe loads for your guns.

Stay safe.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. This is my first post so I'm not sure I'm doing this right, bear with me please, im new to reloading. My question is: what would cause my smith 629-6, 4 inch barrel 44 mag to chronograph velocities higher than reloading manual states. My load is new starline brass, 240gr XTP, cci 350 primer, 23gr h110. My velocities are averaging 1300 fps, with highest fps out of 30 rounds at 1360. There is some flattening of primers, however there is still some rounding on the edges. Cases are mildly sooty with some soot traveling back to the rim. Cases all eject fine, most just fall right out with a light tap on the ejector. My reference materials include hornady, lyman, and nosler manuals. Am I in dangerous territory? Any thoughts greatly appreciated, thanks.
What’s your overall length?
