SW 637 questions

I have taken a liking to the SW 637. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about it.

Originally I was looking seriously at Ruger Sp101. I really like the .357 / .38 concept but I'm truely after after something light (but still shootable).

Any thoughts?

I have a 637 that I'm quite fond of. My wife got it for me last Christmas. I wanted it for CCW, but after carrying it for a few months, didn't really care for the exposed hammer. I've still got it, and will never get rid of it. Who sells a gun that their wife buys em'?

I recently bought a 642 which is the same revolver, minus the exposed hammer. Yeah, it's DA only, but who's gonna shoot a 1 7/8" revolver SA in a self-defense situation?

What do you want the revolver for? If it's for CCW, you may want to look at the hammerless 642. It and the 637 are on sale right now, so you should be able to get some good prices on either piece, and can't really go wrong with either.

Just traded mine for a Taurus 905. Hammer was a problem for pocket and ankle carry. I didn't like firing it with anything over a .38 special 110 grain. I think a 642 would be a better choice if being super super super super super super super light is a big concern for you.

Well, the Ruger is more shootable, but is larger and heavier. The Smith is not as shootable but is smaller and lighter, hence easier to carry. It depends on which is more important to you. If you don't mind an older used gun, have you looked at the Colt Cobra or Agent? These were the lightweight versions of the Detective Special.

I have its predecessor, the 37, and think it's a delightful little gun. Like others here, though, I prefer the hammerless Centennials or humpbacked Bodyguards for CCW.

I have a 637 that I bought for the reasons you did. I replaced the grips, but otherwise have no complaints with it. I found I neeeded to shoot clean ammo (Unique and cast bullet handloads gummed it up).

I have probably pushed 1000 rounds thru it in the past year and I like it fine. It does have significant recoil and I find 100 rounds is all I want at a single sitting before I start feeling it in my elbow. Bullet weight is what you notice; 125's are much more gentle than 158's.

I don't think I'd want it much lighter and I don't think I'd want anything much more powerful. It's a pretty decent compromise.

I'm really drawn to the exposed hammer in revolvers. I'm looking for a good balance between shootable and carryable (SP?). What other models should I be looking at?

I have had mine for sometime now and it fits prefectly for what I wanted it for, which was tee shirt and shorts wear.

A local guy recently had a NIB 637 for $260. I passed because I already have a 638 but kinda kick myself now.
