The original P99 later became the P99AS. It is more like a traditional single/double action where the first round has a DA pull and subsequant rounds SA. There is the ability to set the first trigger pull more like single action
There was also P99DAO (originally called the P990) which was DAO. The P99QA had a partial cocking similiar to a Glock style action.
It's awfully tough to top the Walther P99 (or the P99C). It's as good as anything on the market at any price, IMO. The various trigger configurations that it offers and the adjustable backstrap to fit various hand sizes makes it all the more accommodating. It's a truly top-notch pistol.
